RESPONSIBLE focuses on the analysis of researchers' scientific practices in line with current recommendations for the use of responsible metrics, which are not usually considered in the evaluation criteria.
Objetives
Analize
How funding and evaluation instruments influence scientific practices and the evolution of academic trajectories, and how they can be redesigned to foster a more open, collaborative, and equitable science.
Develope
Protocols, methodologies and/or technological tools for their implementation and validation in the field of scientific evaluation
Understand
The dynamics of generating new knowledge and detecting patterns of behavior
Propose
New forms of evaluation in the current scientific system, highlighting its role in supporting scientific and research policymakers.

Quantitative Analysis
This component is organized at two complementary levels:
Document level: Co-authorship patterns, leadership in publications, publication models (especially regarding open access), and links to funding sources will be analyzed in order to identify how these variables shape the scientific reward system.
Researcher level: Data from multiple sources (publications, projects, author identifiers such as ORCID) will be integrated to characterize academic trajectories in relation to funding, international collaboration, scientific leadership, and engagement with open science. This analysis will help detect structural differences across various career stages, fields of knowledge, and gender.
An essential component of this work will be the assessment of the coverage and quality of metadata available in different information sources. Evaluating their reliability and completeness is crucial for appropriately interpreting the derived indicators and improving the tools available for research assessment and management.
Qualitative Analysis
The qualitative component will focus on analyzing how reforms in research evaluation systems are influencing scientific practices.
To this end, interviews and surveys will be conducted with both researchers and science policy-makers, in order to gather their perceptions, experiences, and assessments of the effects of these transformations.
Open Science Strategy
In line with the principles of open science and in compliance with the CSIC’s institutional mandate on open access, the RESPONSIBLE project is committed to ensuring that all research outputs—data, methods, and publications—are made openly accessible. The project will explore and implement innovative formats for disseminating and communicating findings beyond traditional academic publishing.
In addition to peer-reviewed publications, the project will develop a set of open tools and visualizations—such as dashboards—to enable interactive exploration of results by diverse stakeholders. RESPONSIBLE will also incorporate collaborative platforms, such as the Open Science Framework, to promote transparency, reproducibility, and community engagement throughout the research process. These resources will be made publicly available upon project completion, contributing to the broader adoption of open and responsible research practices.
